I am a big fan of sketches for mapping out my layouts. There are a number of great sketch blogs, published books, and magazine features sharing all kinds of blueprints for great scrapbook layouts.
Upon Korie's suggestion, I had to go get the BHG Page Planner issue. While I loved the inspiration, I was faced with yet another magazine to store and the challenge of finding the sketches when I need them. The June issue of CK showed a storage solution that inspired me. I went through a Rolodex phase last year and purchased a few extras. On Friday, I decided to put one to good use.
First I cut up all of the printed Page Maps and idea books I could find.
Next, I adhered the sketches to jumbo Rolodex cards. Assembly line style made this go really fast:
Then I sorted them by number of photos on the page:
Finally, I made some fun dividers with patterned paper, number stamps and my tab punch. Then I filled up the Rolodex, sat back, and admired my project:
Now when I am assembling my page planners, I just have to pull the card with the sketch I want to build upon and toss it in with my paper, embellishments, and photos. Easy!
Here are a few websites offering free sketches so you can start building your collection:

Officially. Hate. You.
Jeez.... I just told you that this was a stupid idea & it would take too much time and then you have to go & prove me wrong.
Worse, you know it's killing me to be in Chicago when I really want to copy this damn project.

Great project! I am working on something similar, but it also contains color schemes, ideas, and things like that.

How do you get all the sketches to fit on the roledex card? do you shrink them or fold them under?? WHAT A GREAT IDEA !!

Ok this is by far the best idea I have seen in a long time. I love sketches but never can find one I like when I need it. This is perfect. Brilliant. I am so going to Staples to buy some cards and get started organizing.
